CLASSROOM: A&S 340B (11:00 AM 12:15 PM, Wednesday)

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Prerequisite- Sophomore status and DS or CS major. This course serves as an introduction to career preparation for Data Science and computer science majors. Students will understand the different career paths available, the importance of networking, and the role of the various professional user groups and societies within the field. CSCI 2810 (spring semester) should be taken before this class, but not required.

 

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

Upon completion of this course, the student will

·         Create an application letter and resume

·         Create and give an elevator pitch

·         Understand the importance of, and participate in, networking

·         Know how to search for internship/jobs

·         Practice interviewing skills

·         Understand more about teamwork and being a team player

COURSE POLICY:

1.      Class participation is essential in order to have maximum benefit.  You must NOT miss a class unless you have a verifiable written excuse.  An unexcused absence from a class will result in a numerical grade of zero for that class.

2.      No late homework assignments will be accepted. 

ACADEMIC HONESTY:

The integrity of students is a critical component of the academic process.  All written work submitted in this course must be individual work unless the instructor assigns a team of students to work on an assignment. Students must properly document all outside sources used for projects, programs, and homework. The submission of another s work as one s own is plagiarism and will be dealt with using the procedures outlined in the Undergraduate Catalog.
